All students receive training in Hebrew on Sundays as part of the Religious School Program. Our Hebrew curriculum is divided into 5 levels of capability. Students in preschool through 1st grade explore most of our 1st capability level together in their same Religious studies group. However, students in 2nd grade through their B’nai Mitzvah are regrouped on Sunday mornings for a 45 minute Hebrew lesson, based on their individual capability, to foster mastery at their own pace.
Those students at the 3rd are expected to attend additional Hebrew School class on Sunday afternoon, from 12:15-1:30pm. Students are expected to master the 3rd level before being given a date for B’nai Mitzvah. Students who are not interested in pursuing the lifecycle milestone of B’nai Mitzvah, usually stop after this 3rd level. In the 4th level students are working on their final preparation for B’nai Mitzvah, developing fluency with all Shabbat Evening and required Shabbat Morning Prayers, as well as mastering their individual Torah and Haftarah portions. Our 5th level is optional, enhancing their skills by exploring advanced Hebrew text and conversational Hebrew.
Additional private tutors are expected at the 4th level. Private tutoring arrangements can also be made if needed, for students at the 3rd level, especially for students who are new to our program or who may need some remedial help. The Rabbi is happy to assist in selecting a tutor. The family is responsible to coordinate with the tutor to arrange for mutually convenient schedule of sessions.
Private Tutoring is not a replacement for attending classes.
